New Pastel: "Rolling Cloud Bank", 6" x 8"

I was working on this a little bit during my my Artist Support group last Tuesday, with Kelly Nolan present. I had painted it on a small 9" x 12" stretched canvas previously, and was curious about what it would feel and look like using pastels. It came out very different feeling, and I was pleased with the textures. Does it seem I was having fun with the color harmonies? I was!

Watercolor: "Hot Pink Fuchsia"

I sold four 30" x 40" giclees of this piece, "Hot Pink Fuchsia", in September 2012. So excited to be a local Wine Country Artist, and to have my work hanging in the historic Napa River Inn! It was thrilling to see my tiny original 5" x 7" watercolor skillfully enlarged, printed and transformed into a vibrant and strong 30" x 40" stretched, gallery-wrapped canvas giclee! Museum quality materials, hardwood stretchers, an image that is permeated into the canvas, not laying on top of it; done by Dacor Imaging in Napa. Thanks to Arts Council Napa Valley, Kristina Young, and master printer Dave Courtney for helping make it all possible!
Reception for the artists coming up this April, 2013, at Silo's. Stay tuned for details.

Emily's Artist Bio

Emily Freiman, MA, ATR, is a Connecticut-born artist and Art Therapist who has made the California Bay area her home for 34 years. She studied at both the University of Hartford Art School and Massachusetts College of Art, then went on to major in illustration at Paier College of Art in Connecticut. Emily learned Chinese Brush Painting with Madeleine Fu in San Francisco and textile surface design with Zeida Rothman in Berkeley. She interfaced with the interior design industry, designing and producing a line of home textiles that included custom hand painted pillows, stretched fabric paintings and quilts. In 1995 Emily earned a Masters in Art Therapy from the College of Notre Dame de Namur, and worked in the field as Art Therapist for 18 years. Through her Meetup.com website, "The Napa Creative Expression Group", Emily teaches beginner painting and facilitates creative art process and artist support groups. Emily paints on silk, creates intense, high color florals in acrylic and watercolor, and does painterly abstracts, dreamy impressionistic landscapes, and still lifes that vibrate with excitement. Her work's intent is to remind us of the powerful light energy forces that dance behind all objects in nature. One pivotal goal of her art making is to “uplift and transform the human spirit”. Currently Emily is a Board Member of the Napa Valley Art Association, an Arts Council Member, and is represented by online company RoRo Artworks (fine art greeting cards and prints by California artists). Emily recently (August 2012) sold four giclees of her artwork, "Hot Pink Fuchsia" to the Napa River Inn; the project is a collaboration between local businesses and Napa Valley artists.
